WHITE GROUP
Pointed Whites (himalayans):
--Breed Himis only to Self REWs or other Himis.
Ruby-Eyed Whites (REW):
--Always test breed a REW to a clean Self in order to determine true color, then breed as per that color.
Blue-Eyed Whites (BEW):
--breed BEW to BEW only, no exceptions
AGOUTI GROUP
Chinchillas (Black, Chocolate, Lilac, Blue):
--Breed
Chin to Chin only, and keep Chins altogether separate from the rest of
your line UNLESS you are breeding for Silver Tipped Steels--(see
'Ticked Group').
Agouti Varieties (Chestnut, Choc. Agouti, Copper, Lynx, Opal):
--Breed
Agoutis to each other OR clean Selfs, only. Breed to eliminate Agoutis
that carry chl (Shaded), ch (himi), or chd (chinchilla).
BROKEN GROUP
--Breed Brokens to Selfs or Solid Colors only, never Broken to Broken*
SELF GROUP (Black, Blue, Chocolate, Lilac):
--Breed
Selfs to any color EXCEPT Shadeds, Chinchillas, and BEWs, and be sure
to eliminate any chl, chd, or ch carrying Selfs from your herd before
breeding them to any other color.
SHADED GROUP (Pearl, Sable, Seal, Smoke Pearl):
--Breed Shaded to Shaded, only*
TORTOISESHELL VARIETIES (Black, Blue, Chocolate, Lilac):
--Breed
Torts to other Torts, Widebands, clean Selfs, or Agoutis who do NOT
carry chl, chd, or ch genes. Do NOT breed Torts to Shadeds, Himis,
BEWs, or Chinchillas.
TICKED GROUP (Black, Blue, Chocolate, Lilac):
--Breed Steels to Agoutis only, never breed Steel to Steel*.
Breed:
Gold Tipped Black Steels to Chestnuts
G.T. Blue Steels to Opals
G.T. Chocolate Steels to Choc. Agoutis
G.T. Lilac Steels to Lynxes
Breed:
Silver Tipped Lilac Steels to Lilac Chinchillas
S.T. Chocolate Steels to Choc. Chinchillas
S.T. Blue Steels to Squirrels
S.T. Black Steels to Black Chinchillas
WIDEBAND GROUP (Fawn, Red, Cream):
--Breed Wideband to Wideband only, OR to Torts, Chocolate or Lilac Selfs
*Brokens
CAN be bred to Brokens when a large amount of Brokens are desired in
the next generation. Charlies that are produced out of broken/broken
breedings can later be bred to Solids to produce 100% Brokens in their
litters.
*Occasionally some of the Shaded colors look darker than usual
due to the presence of a double cchlc gene (for ex. the Seal and Dark
Smoke Pearl colors). Breeding a self REW to these Dark Shadeds may
sometimes be desirable as it will produce a litter of single cchlc gene
rabbits, which will all be lighter in color (Ex. if you want Smoke
Pearls that do not resemble Blues, etc.)
*Breeding Steel to Steel will produce 'false blacks' (rabbits
that look black but are actually double Steels). These rabbits are
unregisterable and unshowable, but may have value in a breeding program
since they will produce 100% Steeled litters when bred to an Agouti
that does NOT carry the Steel gene.
